There is nothing quite like the first week of school at Texas A&M University. The air is thick with humidity and thousands of students are buzzing with excitement. The university found a unique way to capture all that energy: a big photo mosaic.
If you walked through the Memorial Student Center during Welcome Week, you couldn’t miss it. What started as a blank board slowly transformed into a massive piece of art, made entirely out of student photos.
Capturing the Buzz of Welcome Week
Welcome Week is all about festivities. From free food to club meetings, there was something happening around every corner. To make sure they caught the energy of the first few days, organizers set up the live print station right in the heart of the student center.
Students were encouraged to stop by, snap a photo, and watch as their picture was printed and placed onto the board. By the end of the week, the mosaic featured over 2,000 photos!
Why It Was the Talk of the Campus
The live mosaic became a destination. Students would tell their friends, “Hey, come by the mosaic station and get your photo on the wall!” It became a way to mark the start of the school year.
For freshmen, it was a chance to feel like they belonged right away. For seniors, it was one last “first week” memory to hold onto. The mosaic served as a visual of the excitement building up on campus.
A Community Built One Photo at a Time
By the time the final photo was placed, the board was a masterpiece of memories. It represented more than just a cool art project; it represented the 2,000+ faces that make Texas A&M such a special place.
