A ‘Staple’ in the World of Mosaics

I’ve seen a lot of buzz going around about the (hopefully) triumphant new chapter in the Star Wars saga. I have to say that I’ve been a huge fan since I was a kid (I even enjoy the prequels!). So I’m definitely excited to see this great story unfold even further. While there’s certainly no shortage of Star Wars fan art out there, these portrait mosaics by James Haggerty grabbed my attention right away. I must add that I’m a big mosaic fan, especially photo mosaics.

At first glance, they just looked like paintings or drawings. But as I looked closer, I realized that these mosaics were meticulously created with a series of colored staples. Painstakingly made, one of these 32×40 inch mosaic portraits can take over six months to create! Using only a paint board, paint, and literally tens of thousands of staples, these fantastic portraits are incredibly detailed and accurate. They take me right back to some of my fondest Star Wars moments.
