The Dimensional Photography of Fong Qi Wei

Photography is a field I haven’t explored thoroughly but have always appreciated. Capturing a moment in time has always seemed so fascinating. I recently found a photographer who forges moments in time together to create truly stunning collages. Singapore-based photographer Fong Qi Wei started a project “Time is a Dimension” where he wanted to capture a series of moments in a single image.

In this series, I strive to capture both details and also a sequence of time in a single 2 dimensional canvas.” – Fong Qi Wei

Long exposure photography is the common method to capture a photo over a period of time. The downside is the motion captured over time makes the photo lose much of its vital detail. Wei solved this problem by fixing his camera into place and shooting the sunrise and sunset individually. He then used the pictures to build collages by using asymmetrical shapes that created colorful movement in a static image. Based off his works, Wei strove and succeeded in capturing both detail and time in these photographs.
