A Big Moment at the Global Citizen Festival

Over 60,000 people came together for the two day Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York City to support the on-going hunger crisis. Giant screens showcased the live photo mosaic in between performances and even during some performances, with new submissions being added in real time. The success of the mosaic was clear in the amazing participation, and most importantly a mosaic that represented everyone coming together as one!

People Around the World Took Part

Everyone at the festival, and even people watching from home, could take part in spreading the message. Festival goers scanned QR codes throughout the venue to participate in the mosaic, while people at home scanned the QR code on their TV. By sending in a selfie through the customized submission flow, participants added their photo in real time to the mosaic. These selfies helped support Global Citizen’s petition to save the 50 million people on the brink of starvation.

In total, over 11,000 photos were submitted in two days to be part of the final display. Each participant’s photo became a small tile in a much larger picture.

Not Just a Mosaic, A Video Too

On-the-fly video animations were created to highlight some of the more fun and memorable submissions, these were displayed on the large screens and on TV. These were a great snapshot of the live digital mosaic.

A Selfie That Meant Something More

This wasn’t just about taking selfies, it was about being seen and heard. By using a photo mosaic, the project turned simple pictures into a powerful message for change.

Even if someone couldn’t be there in person, their selfie submitted from home still helped show their support. Moreover, it showed that small actions, when added together, can have a big visual and real-world impact.

Change Happens One Photo at a Time

The Global Citizen mosaic proved that art and technology can work together to inspire people, while being able to see the ROI from the success through signatures on the petition and social sharing. With the help of the Picture Mosaic’s platform, a simple idea became a global symbol of unity.

Thousands of people stood together, one photo at a time.
