Which size should I choose?
The larger the better.

Currently, our most popular sizes:
Medium & Large

Why? There are three main reasons:
(1) Better source clarity: The larger your target print size, the more cells (small pictures) we can "squeeze" into the mosaic while still maintaining their ability to be easily recognized by the naked eye.  Having more cells usually results in a better, clearer mosaic.
(2) Larger cell photos: The larger your target print size, the larger each cell photo will be. Although we make every attempt to make the cell photos as large as possible for each mosaic we design, larger print sizes translate to larger cell sizes. Having larger cell photos makes details within the photo easier to see.
(3) Lower colorization: Because there will be more cell photo in larger prints as stated in (1) we typically we use less cell colorization*.
*
Cell colorization: After all images are optimally placed and there still lacks the appropriate overall color and/or detail, colors from the source image may be faintly merged into certain areas in the mosaic.

The total cell count of your mosaic is usually determined and optimized based on three criteria:
source complexity
, target mosaic print size, and cell variety.

Typical cell counts for differently sized mosaics:

Small: 1300 to 2000 cells
Medium: 1800 to 3100 cells
Large: 2400 to 4200 cells
X-large: 3000 to 6000 cells

*keep in mind that your pictures will be repeated to achieve these cells counts.

Within these ranges, depending on your source complexity, an optimal cell count will be selected. We attempt to keep the cells as large as possible while still maintaining source clarity when viewing your mosaic from 4 to 8 feet away.

Additional notes:
It is recommended to select a non-complex source image. Less complex source images will use less cells, which in turn will result in larger cell sizes - which is usually very desired. Please refer to the source guidelines in helping select a good source (click here).
